Introduced at the October 1972 Paris Motor Show, the Maserati Merak, also known as ‘Tipo122’, was intended to rival the Ferrari 308 GT4 and Lamborghini Urraco. At that time Maserati was owned by Citroen and one feature of the car was the use of the firm’s successful hydraulic system, while they shared a lot of parts with Citroen’s flagship, the S.M. An even faster model, the Merak SS appeared at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1975. This specific car had firstly being exported from Hong-Kong and was acquired by the Museum through auction in Great Britain.
