The Pininfarina designed 308 made its appearance in 1975 and it was an immediate success. The performance, handling and design of the car were considered unprecedented. The result was so impressive that, at least, the rear of the car was established partly in many of the firm’s later models. At its heart was a Formula One derived, all alloy, four camshaft 3.0-litre V8 engine. For 1977 the GTS model with a targa top was introduced. This specific car was imported into Great Britain from the United States and was acquired by the Museum through auction.
